4th Annual Bike + Wine Fundraisder

Spring 2017 Healdsburg Fundraising Event
It’s that time of year again! We are excited to be bringing back this event, now in our fourth year of Bike & Wine in Healdsburg. Last year we landed a great combination of ride length and scenery, wineries, and time per stop. This year we are mixing it up with a couple new wineries, a new bike route, less milage (don’t worry, it will still be a good ride!) and a new starting location from downtown Healdsburg.
If you need a bike for the event, we are leaving from the parking lot of Wine Country Bike Rentals, right off the old bridge over the Russian River in Healdsburg. It is up to you to book your rental, but let us know if you are renting so we can assure you return to the shop in time to return the bike.
Otherwise we got your covered (with the purchase of your ticket) for a day of biking, tasting great wines, lunch and snacks, meeting new people and having fun for a good cause. The event is 100% non-profit with all funds raised going toward funding sanitary pads for underprivileged girls in Kenya.

About Fountain Youth Initiative and the Inuka Sanitary Pad Project:
Fountain Youth Initiative is a small locally run organization located in Githruai, Kenya. Their focus is to nurture, empower, and transform disadvantaged youth in the local community to become self reliant and independent through education and skill development. The funds raised from this event will go specifically toward the Inuka Sanitary Pad Project which has been an integral part of keeping young girls in school with both increased attendance and performance levels. Studies have proven that in developing countries, young girls who need sanitary pads and are unable to afford them often leads to missing classes on days of their monthly cycle. Over time they fall behind in school, and tend to drop out of junior high and high school at higher rates. Funds contributed from this event help with the distribution of pads, and also pays for Fountain Youth Staff to provide women’s health education in the classrooms for the recipient girls to help them out of a cycle of poverty. Help us in funding the Inuka Sanitary Pad Project and supporting over 400 young girls by attending the Bike & Wine Healdsburg fundraising event!
Why we love and support Fountain Youth Initiative:
In autumn of 2013 we the chance to volunteer with Fountain Youth Initiative while living in the local community, Githurai. We spent long days making huge strides with the team in teaching budgeting skills, helping the organization make strategic plans for new programs, and doing on-the-ground work in the community. We not only became a part of the team but we also become a part of the community. Since traveling onward, we have continued to work with the organization helping them remotely with a new quarterly e-newsletter, grant proposals, fundraising, and making international connections. The founder and leader of the organization, Joseph Bwire, is an inspiration and now close friend of ours. We believe in the work he is doing and the cause he is spreading, starting in his own home community. We are really excited to be returning to the Bay Area this spring and to create this event and bring this cause to our home area!
Here’s a quick video that explains how sanitary pads and support empowers girls to stay in school with confidence and break continued cycles of poverty through continued education.
