On early Wednesday morning last week we began our vagabond lifestyle and the first small steps to our first official departure for our long journey. With backpacks on our backs, we waited at the Chevron gas station in Seaside, OR where we caught a bus that took us to Portland. After a week of packing, checking and double checking, and having some nostalgic memories during a last beach time rainy hot-tub night, we were ready to say our good-byes to family and friends in Portland and eager to catch our flight on Friday night for some fun filled plans on the east coast.
Unfortunately, not everything went exactly to plan. . . .
With the newly infamous “Storm Nemo” on the horizon we first got a notice of our bus trip to Boston being canceled, soon to be followed by an update that our flight to New York was cancelled as well. We managed to fill the void of the 48 hour delay with some good PDX food and drink with family and friends. As our final west-coast departure meal we thought it was fitting to have some grubbing Mexican food (also Ben’s comfort food). Burritos and guacamole will be missed mucho as we venture further east.
We were pretty bummed out about the delay and it’s not exactly the departure we were hoping for. Unfortunately we won’t be able to see some good friends we had hoped to see and our side-trip to Boston isn’t going to happen. But… that is part of the joy of travel and to be expected… we just weren’t expecting it so quick! And despite the first ‘bump in the road,’ we have arrived safe and sound to NYC with a full week of fun lined up … if all goes to plan ;o).
We want to give a special thank you to Blake Kelly for the JetBlue tickets and being our ‘inside’ personal travel agent for this leg of the journey! Can’t wait to see you guys!
